Jide was initially called to Bar in Nigeria in 1989, after a 4 year education at the faculty of law, University of Ife, and another one year at the Nigerian law school.
Jide subsequently studied at the Carlton University Ottawa Canada where he took courses in Canadian history and law between 1995 to 1997. He then studied at the University of Ottawa Law School between 1998 and 2000, and received a Masters of Laws Degree (LL.M) specializing in Contract/Commercial Law, Hi-Tech and Antitrust Law (Competition Law).
Jide Uwechia has worked in various capacities across different countries. He began his legal practice in Nigeria, a common law country practicing business, Commercial and Real Property Law between 1989 to 1993. Within that same period, he also taught Law of Contract, as a professor of law at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Nigeria.
After completing his Canadian law school education in Canada in 2001, Jide Uwechia was called to the Bar the Law Society of Upper Canada in February 2001. Jide Uwechia then worked in the University of Ottawa, Law School as a sessional Professor teaching Commercial Law.
While still finishing up his Masters of law degree in 1998 , Jide Uwechia was also working for the Canadian Competition Bureau (Canada’s equivalent of the DOJ Antitrust Unit or the Federal Trade Commission).
In the year 1999, Jide Uwechia transferred to the Spectrum Information Telephone and Telecommunication Branch of Industry Canada, and worked as a policy analyst and adviser in the domain of radio-spectrum regulation, internet, television and telecommunication law and policy.
In 2000, Jide worked for the Canadian Radio Television Commission (CRTC), as a Resolution of Conflict Officer implementing the liberalization and competition policy of the Commission. The Commission is responsible for the administration of the laws and the regulations governing television, telephone and internet businesses in Canada.
In 2001, Jide Uwechia was hired by the Canadian Department of Justice as legal counsel to provide high level expert advice in the field of public procurement, contract law, intellectual property, internet and telecommunications law and policy. For 16 years, Jide Uwechia worked with the Department of Justice deepening his legal knowledge and skills in these and other domains of legal practice, like space law, military procurement, and construction law.
Jide Uwechia has participated and lead legal files entailing highly sensitive procurement covering every imaginable area of government operations. He has lead multi billion dollar legal procurement files and has negotiated contracts and multi-year projects between various NATO countries, and investment banks and top ranking multi-national companies.
